Child Health Surveillance
A child health and development service if offered to all children under 5 years old. Your child will receive invitations to attend for check-ups with the doctor and health visitor periodically and it is most important to attend.
Vaccinations & Immunisations
The practice regards the protection from disease by immunisation, particularly of children, as one of its highest priorities. Information about you or your child’s immunisation requirements can be obtained from reception or the health visitor.
Travel Advice & Vaccinations
The nurse is able to give a wide range of advice on travel health as well as necessary travel vaccinations. Please make an appointment to see the nurse at least 8 weeks before you intend to leave the country.
Cervical Smear Tests
The practice operates a call and recall service for women aged 20 to 65 years old. You will be sent an invitation to have a smear test every 3 or 5 years.
Well Person Health Checks (MOT Clinic)
The MOT clinic held by the nursing team is available for all patients to have a general health check at any time. Height, weight and blood pressure are measured and urine is tested. Based on these findings general advice on diet, exercise and lifestyle is given.
Family Planning
Some family planning services are provided by the practice which includes contraceptive injections, fitting of coils and the pill.
Maternity Care
The practice offers full maternity care for expectant and nursing mothers. Antenatal clinics are held weekly. Ask reception for details.
Dietician
A dietician attends the practice once a month to see patients who have been referred by doctors and nurses.
Over 75 Years
If you are over 75 years old you are encouraged to have a health check annually. If you cannot attend the surgery please contact reception.
Minor Surgery
Minor surgery is carried out at the surgery to help save long waits for hospital treatment. This can be arranged by consulting the doctor.
Warts & Verrucae Treatment
The practice offers a cryocautery service for the treatment of warts, verrucae and some other skin lesions by freezing with liquid nitrogen. Ask reception for details. Arrangements can be made by the doctor following a consultation.
Asthma, Diabetes, Heart & Blood Pressure Clinics
The practice nurses hold regular clinics for the management of patients suffering from asthma, diabetes, heart disease and blood pressure. All aspects of these complex conditions are monitored. Appropriate advice and treatment is given where problems arise and referral to specialists arranged when required. Ask at reception for an appointment if you have been diagnosed as suffering from any of these conditions.
Weight Management Clinic
The practice holds regular weight clinics. The practice nurse will give advice regarding eating habits, lifestyle and exercise. If appropriate you will be referred to the “fitness for life” programme. Ask reception for further details.
Mental Health Services
Low mood and anxiety are common problems in general practice. We are pleased to offer a range of services to help with these. Drug therapy can play an important role in mood problems; however there are some non-drug treatments that patients may be interested in. These include relaxation techniques, the Book on Prescription Scheme, Fitness for Life and ‘Beating the Blues’ – a computer based cognitive therapy plan. The GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner can advise you if these would be appropriate.
Skin Clinic
The Practice holds a weekly ‘skin clinic’ which is run by our Advanced Nurse Practitioner. This clinic is specifically designed to accommodate patients who need that extra care and attention with their skin condition such as acne; psoriasis; eczema; dermatitis; various rash; fungal infections. The nurse will demonstrate to parents or carers how to ‘wet wrap’ ; bandage application and also how to apply various creams and topical lotions.
