Urgent Care Centre (open 24 hours a day – all year round)
The Urgent Care Centre can be accessed directly by people who have sustained a minor injury – this is not an Accident & Emergency Department or an out-of-hours GP Service. The unit is staffed by Emergency Nurse Practitioners, who see, treat and discharge patients and are able to request X-rays if necessary.
The Urgent Care Centre is located at Burnley General Hospital (J12, M65)
Accident and Emeregncy/999 (open 24 hours a day – all year round))
The Accident and Emergency Service in East Lancashire is located at Royal Blackburn Hospital signposted off Junction 5 of the M65. An emergency is ‘a critical or life threatening situation’ and included things like:
- Unconsciousness
- Losing a lot of blood
- Difficulty in breathing
- Severe chest pain
- Suspected broken cones
